What you need
- Three favourite toys or stuffed animals
- A blanket or cushion for the 'stage'
Don't have it? Swap it:
- No toys nearby? Use a spoon, a cup and a sock — odd characters make funnier stories.
How to play
Let your child choose three characters and set them on the blanket stage.
Start the story yourself: 'One morning, Bear woke up and found something very strange…'
Take turns adding one sentence each. Whoever holds the toy that is talking gets to speak.
Gently steer the story through a small problem — something lost, stuck or mixed up.
End with a happy fix, then ask your child to give the story a title.

- “What happens next?”
- “How do you think Bear feels about that?”
- “What should we call our story?”
Make it easier or harder
Easier
You tell most of the story and pause so your child fills in single words: 'Bear opened the box and found a…'
Harder
Ask your child to tell the whole story back to you from the beginning, or act it out as a little play for another family member.

Safety note
This is a calm floor activity. Just keep the stage away from stairs and hot drinks. An adult should always supervise this activity.
